Grades & Transcripts

Incompletes (I)

An I is an incomplete grade that must be turned into a final grade within one year. Use of the I is at the discretion of the course instructor and/or the academic dean’s office. Students must request an I, which is given only when students, for reasons beyond their control, have been unable to complete course requirements. A substantial amount of work must have been satisfactorily completed before approval for such a grade is given.

The instructor sets the conditions under which the course work can be completed and the time limit for its completion. The final grade (earned by completing the course requirements) does not result in deletion of the I from the transcript; but the new grade is added. I grades are automatically changed to an F at the end of one year grades for courses that are not completed.

If you will receive an I grade at the end of the semester and need course materials/lectures from CAETE to complete your course, there may be a fee associated with obtaining the course. Refer to the Course/Media Purchase and Shipping Rate page.

If you're receiving CDs (or other media) for your current semester course, you do not need to return the media and there is no additional charge. If you're viewing the lectures via streaming/downloading, make sure you download all the lectures before the end of the semester...you will lose access to those courses via the Internet after the semester ends. Observe copyright laws. All course material is copyrighted by the University of Colorado, and any reproduction, broadcast, or resale is strictly prohibited.

If you are not enrolled for any CU courses while completing your I, you will lose your CU computer access privileges (i.e. CULearn, e-mail, student portal, etc.). To obtain an extension of your access privileges, send an e-mail to the registrar. In the e-mail, provide your full name, last four digits of your student ID number (SID), month and day of your birthday, and the length of time needed (3 weeks, 1 year, etc.) for the extension.

Course Evaluations

Faculty Course Questionnaires (FCQs) are given to students at the end of each course to evaluate the instructor and the course. Student feedback is important. Results are used by future students in selecting classes, by administrators for tenure and promotion decisions, and by faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching and course materials. Responses are anonymous and instructors do not have access to results until after grades have been submitted.

During the last few weeks of the semester, distance students will receive an e-mail with a link to an online FCQ. FCQs are sent to the e-mail address provided by the distance student on the CAETE registration form unless an update is submitted. The online forms are only accessible for a limited time after students receive notification. FCQs are distributed in class for on-campus students.
