The Center for Advanced Engineering and Technology Education (CAETE) makes it possible for you to complete graduate-level CU-Boulder engineering and technology classes without setting foot on campus. For over 20 years, CAETE has been a leader in providing flexible, convenient access to post-graduate engineering coursework, certificate programs, and advanced degrees. With a variety of distance learning opportunities accessible from virtually anywhere around the world, CAETE gives you the power to reach your educational goals.

Faculty and Research
The College of Engineering and Applied Science has well over 150 full-time, distinguished, and dedicated faculty members. Eighteen are NSF National or Presidential Young Investigators; 20 are NSF CAREER Award winners; three others are NSF Presidential Early Career Award winners or faculty fellows. In addition, four current senior faculty and four emeritus faculty are members of the National Academy of Engineering. One faculty member, Kristi Anseth, received the NSF Waterman Award, the organization’s highest honor, recognizing exceptional achievement in scientific or engineering research. The college has 18 endowed chairs and professorships and hosts many distinguished adjunct faculty from industries nationwide.
Eighteen research centers offer additional opportunities to students for interdisciplinary study and support. National laboratories and numerous industrial firms involve the college’s students and faculty in many joint research projects. Research expenditures during the 2003–2004 academic year exceeded $67 million.
In the U.S. News and World Report study published in April 2005, the graduate programs at the College of Engineering and Applied Science ranked 19th among public engineering schools.
University/Industry Partnerships
CAETE maintains ongoing relationships with industry representatives to offer courses that meet changing needs. Many companies have designated education officers to proctor exams for students.
Self-employed/Independent Students
Self-employed individuals and those from smaller companies can also take advantage of what CAETE has to offer. If you are not currently employed, or prefer not to take courses through your employer, you can easily register as an independent student. If you relocate or change jobs, CAETE has the flexibility to change with you. Course media and handouts can be sent wherever you go, and courses can be easily accessed via the Internet.
Credit Courses, Certificates, and Degrees
All credit courses are approved and offered by CU-Boulder academic programs/departments. Degrees are awarded by individual University of Colorado academic programs/departments. Courses can be taken either as non-credit learning opportunities or for credit toward a graduate certificate or master’s degree in the following engineering disciplines:
- Aerospace Engineering—ME and MS
- Computer Science—ME
- Electrical and Computer Engineering—ME and MS
- Certificates: Power Electronics, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems (on campus)
- Engineering Management—ME
- Certificates: Engineering Management, Project Management, R&D, Software Management
- Telecommunications—ME and MS
Course Library
The CAETE course library offers access to over 100 university of Colorado at Boulder graduate engineering and technology courses taught in previous semesters. Courses are available to take for credit or for rental or purchase for no-credit.
Not-for-Credit Classes and Certificates
We offer a variety of not-for-credit classes/certificates in engineering and technology areas. Boost your career by building technical skills; train to become an Oracle database administrator, Six Sigma Black Belt, Project Management Professional; or take classes just for fun!
