While the instructor maintains the copyright to the intellectual property shared with the class, CAETE maintains the copyright to the recorded product.
As a cash-funded center, CAETE receives no money from the University's general fund. With the instructor's permission, CAETE markets the recorded courses generating revenue to help maintain its budget.
Students can view lectures online or by going to the Engineering Library where CD-ROMs and equipment are available for student use.
At the beginning of the semester, CAETE will send each faculty member teaching courses via distance learning a form to complete seeking their permission to include their course in the Library. Please indicate on the form the conditions for inclusion (or not) and return the form to CAETE within the specified time. We appreciate your cooperation and support.
Courses are added to the Course Library after each semester. CAETE markets these courses to government, industry, other academic institutions. Revenue generated from Course Library sales is shared with instructors and/or their department based on the compensation agreement.
Students can take courses from the library for credit with permission from the instructor. If that permission is granted, CAETE will register the student for the appropriate semester, give the student online access to the course lectures, email the student any handouts or instructor notes, collect tuition, and pay the instructional share as stated in the "Payment" section below. The student will work directly with the instructor (similar to an independent study) for the duration of the semester to complete assignments and exams. Requirements and dates for all assignments and exams will be set by the instructor and communicated to the student. At the conclusion of the semester, the instructor will submit a grade for the student online.
Each recorded course will be maintained in the Course Library and will be updated each time it is taught again through CAETE. Courses are generally removed from the Course Library when they are older than five years. However, if at any time, the instructor determines that the course has become outdated, we will remove the course from our inventory at their direction. Should the instructor leave the University, their course(s) will be removed from the Course Library.
One-third of the tuition for each distance student enrolled in the class is shared with the instructor and/or the instructor’s department based on the compensation agreement. All payments are made to the departmental furnished account. Should the instructor leave the department, we will continue to send payments to the departmental furnished account unless the department directs otherwise. For further information, contact the program assistant in the applicable department or CAETE Financial Services. Also refer to the Library Course Rate Chart.
