Homework and Exams

Faculty are available for consultation during scheduled telephone office hours or via e-mail. Specific questions about course content, assignments, exams, and grading should be discussed directly with the instructor.

Written materials from instructors are sent to students without charge throughout the semester.

  • Handouts are typically included in your regular media shipments. Generally allow at least one week for delivery.
  • If you do not receive material you are expecting, contact CAETE Student Services.
  • Instructors specify their expectations and generally announce their contact information and homework schedule at the beginning of the semester.
  • The time it takes to receive handouts and media in the U.S. mail is taken into consideration in the assignment schedule.
  • If you have problems meeting a deadline due to illness or work, discuss the situation directly with the instructor before the due date.
  • Completed homework should be sent directly to the instructor or TA.
  • After grading, CAETE will return homework to students.

Students registering for credit courses by distance learning (except for thesis, project, or seminar) are required to have an education officer (EO) who proctors exams. Many work sites already have an EO, often a person in the training or human resources department. If your company does not have a designated EO, you may request your supervisor or your company training person to proctor your exams.

Another option is to request a person from a local library or community college to serve as your EO. Bemis Public Library in Littleton offers this free service.

For those able to come to campus, the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies provides a free proctoring service. Contact continuing education at 303-492-5148 for more information.

An EO cannot be a student's relative, friend, coworker, or someone who works for the student. The EO address must be a business address. Potential EOs should contact CAETE with questions.

  • Exams are sent to EOs with a cover memo stating the date, time, and specifications for the exam. Although EOs are not expected to proctor exams other than during normal work hours, they should arrange to administer exams as close to the scheduled time as possible.
  • If you expect to be away on business, special arrangements should be made with the instructor before the exam date.

Completed exams should be sent by the EO only, directly to the instructor or TA. CAETE will return graded exams to students.
