Camtasia Relay

Requirements

Windows XP SP2 (or Higher) Minimum, or Vista

  • 1.0Ghz CPU Minimum, 2.0Ghz Recommended
  • 512MB RAM Minium, 1GB Recommended
  • 2GB/Hr of recording free HD space
  • 15MB free of HD space for install

OSX 10.4.11 Minimum, OSX 10.5.x Recommended

  • PowerPC 1.4Ghz Minimum, Intel-Based 2.16Ghz Recommended
  • 512MB Minimum, 2GB Recommended
  • 2GB/Hr of recording free HD space
  • 15MB free of HD space for install

Getting Started

Installing the Recorder

  • Login to the administration interface with your Identikey username & password.
  • On the right-hand side of the screen under the "Camtasia Relay Recorders" box, click the "Download" icon.
  • Click the download for your platform (OSX or Windows).
  • Once the downloaded, install the application as you would any other on your platform.

Test your Environment

  • Open the Camtasia Relay Recorder.
  • Login with your Identikey Username & Password.
  • Under "Recording details", select "Direct Upload to YouTube (10Min MAX)" from the "Profile" drop down box. IMPORTANT
  • In the bottom right hand side of the application, click the blue "TEST" button.
  • Speak normally during the test and move your mouse around for 10 seconds.
  • When the test is done a review window will pop-up.
  • Click play and verify that you can hear yourself and that your mouse movements are visible.
  • If you do not hear yourself or see your screen/mouse movements, skip to the troubleshooting section on this page.
  • When done click close to return to the main application window.

Starting a Recording

  • Open the Camtasia Relay Recorder.
  • Login with your Identikey Username & Password.
  • Under "Recording details", select "Direct Upload to YouTube (10Min MAX)" from the "Profile" drop down box from the "Profile" drop down box. IMPORTANT
  • Enter a "Presentation title", and "Presentation description".
  • In the bottom right hand side of the application, click the red "REC" button.

Ending a Recording

  • Open the Camtasia relay application, click the stop button.
  • The review window should open, click the play button to review the video.
  • If the video needs to be edited, click the 'Trimming' button. See the Editing a Recording for more information.
  • Afterwards click the "Submit" button (or 'Save' when off-line).

Deleting or Editing a Recording after Submitting

This functionality is not currently available at this time.  If you'd like to edit or delete a video that you have already submitted to YouTube please contact help@caete.colorado.edu.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. Powerpoint crashes when I encounter a video in my slides while recording.
  • A. Disable macro's when opening your slides and/or use a newer version of Powerpoint. This is a known bug, and will be fixed in a future release.
  • Q. I do not hear any audio in my recordings.
  • A. Please ensure that you have the correct microphone selected on the Relay recording dialog. You can check this by clicking the microphone icon at the top. Please contact help@caete.colorado.edu if you need further assistance.
  • Q. I do not see any video or the video doesn't change in my recordings.
  • A. Unfortunately there is no simple solution for this, please contact help@caete.colorado.edu for further assistance.

Additional Applications & Tips

Mac OSX

  • On-Screen writing can be done with a Tablet and Omni Dazzle.
  • Zooming can be done by using the built in accessability tools.
  •  

Windows

  • On-Screen writing can be done with a Tablet or Tablet PC, and Windows Journal.
  • Zooming can be done by using a 3rd party application called Magical Glass.

General

Orginary microphones can be used, but we'd suggest using a lapel, boom, or headset mic.  Unlike built in microphones, these will not pick up noise from your computer or keyboard.
