Registration
To register for credit-based courses through CAETE:
- If you are registering for the first time through CAETE, or if you have not been enrolled through CAETE or CU-Boulder within the last 12 months, you must complete the online CAETE Registration Form. Follow the instructions for each section. Note that on the first page, the alphanumeric "your Login ID" and "Your Password" are ones that you create right then.
- If you have enrolled through CAETE or CU-Boulder within the last 12 months or you are currently enrolled on the main campus, complete the Student Data short form. Follow the directions for each section. The form may be completed in your browser, then printed and signed. Mail or fax this form to the address provided on the form. Please make sure you sign the form before mailing or faxing it in.
- In addition to completing one of the forms above, you must also complete the Course Information form once the regular registration period has ended or if one or more of the following applies to you.
- If you are taking a course library, thesis, capstone, independent study, or degree candidacy course. Please note that these courses require the instructor's approval. Send/fax this form and the written permission from the instructor to the location listed on the form. Permission from the instructor is also acceptable via e-mail to caetereg@colorado.edu.
- If you are a main campus student who is requesting registration for a distance course. Please note that you will need permission from your academic department to take a distance course. Please submit the permission with the Course Information form. Permission from the department is also acceptable via e-mail to caetereg@colorado.edu.
- If you are a non-degree (non-admitted) student who would like to take a TLEN or EMEN course. Please note that if you are requesting registration for an EMEN course, you will need permission from the Engineering Management Program (EMP) to take the course. Submit the permission with the course information form. Permission from the department is also acceptable via e-mail to caetereg@colorado.edu.
- If you are requesting registration for an Embedded Systems course.
- Students who do not need to complete the Course Information form will be sent an “Invitation to Register” online via CU Connect (once the Student Data form has been received and processed by CAETE).
- Students who need to submit the CAETE Course Information form will be registered by the CAETE office and will receive a registration confirmation by e-mail within a week.
Please make sure that all required forms are signed before you send or fax the forms back to CAETE. Missing signatures will delay the processing of your registration request.
To register for not-for-credit (skill-building) courses through CAETE:
Complete the SCC Registration form. This form can be mailed or faxed to the contact information on the form. You can also call the registrar at 303-492-5148 to register by phone. You can register up to the day class begins. However, we strongly encourage you to register at least two weeks ahead in order to receive instructional materials and computer access in a timely manner. Late registrants may encounter delays.
To Audit a Course
Individuals or companies may purchase or rent a distance course through our course library for personal use or training purposes. CAETE tuition applies. Refer to the Course Library page for rates and further information. Individuals may also take a distance course through CAETE for no-credit. Follow the registration process for credit-based courses above. CAETE tuition applies. For individuals to want to attend class on campus, follow the instructions on the main campus registrar's page.Credit Courses
To add or drop a course, or to change credit/no-credit status after submitting the original registration form, e-mail your request to ceregistration@Colorado.Edu. The upper part of the Add/Drop/Petition Voucher can also be completed, signed and faxed to 303-492-5335. Contact the Registrar for the form.
Dropping a course after the drop deadline date(s) will result in the 40% or 60% tuition assessment going into effect. In this case, the bottom portion of the Add/Drop/Petition Voucher must also be completed in order to receive any tuition refund. Refer to the CAETE academic calendar for add and drop deadlines and for the fees and tuition charges that apply. Be sure to contact the Registrar to verify that the voucher has been received.
Consult with the instructor about possible alternatives (i.e. extend exam deadlines, take an incomplete, etc.) before deciding to drop a course.
Not-for-Credit (Skill-Building) Courses
Once enrolled, it is your responsibility to attend
the course or drop from it in a timely manner.
To receive a refund, a course must be dropped
five business days before class begins. No refunds
will be issued after this time. Contact the Registrar
to drop your course.
Course Completion
CU students who need access to the current or previous semester course material in order to complete an IF may do so. Go to the Grades and Transcripts page for more info.
