ASEN 5148: Spacecraft Design

Description
Focuses on completing a Phase A Proposal for a spacecraft mission. Using requirements and constraints comparable to a NASA Announcement of Opportunity, student teams develop a spacecraft design, produce a written proposal accompanied by a formal presentation of the work.

This course provides an overview to the subsystems of a spacecraft. As an introduction it creates a foundation for further, focused study of the individual subsystems. Costing and proposal preparation are performed as part of the semester’s work. Presentation and writing skills are reinforced. Discussion of contemporary issues relevant to spacecraft engineering design is included. Fundamental concepts are emphasized, allowing the student to integrate a full spacecraft system design. In completing the semester’s work, the student will gain significant insight into the tradeoffs involved in the spacecraft design process.
